I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. Every day for the past month in New Orleans it has rained and the forecasts have fluctuated wildly. Long ago I ordered the materials from Teak Decking Systems to recaulk our cockpit teak seams but every weekend I was met by more rain. Like a damn rain forest. We made it! Today was the day to finally put caulk in the companionway hatch seams.
I used the black caulk from Teak Decking Systems and 3M 218 fine line tape for a bond breaker at the bottom of the seam.
It turned out to be extremely windy but I made it work with an elaborate tarp setup. After 5 hours of taping and preparing the hatch Tate broke away from his other project and came out to help me. Thank goodness since this turned out to be a much easier job for 2 than 1.

Today’s post is in the form of a video, the first of it’s kind. We had the suggestion on Facebook so I thought I’d give it a try. I apologize for the wind in the beginning and bad lighting but that’s shobiz! I touch on various refit topics at first but then move into Part 1 of the companionway hatch project.
