This morning Dani woke me up at 6am. Ugh! She is so sweet though because she had coffee waiting for me. The morning time fun of painting was to continue today. Once again we have to get to the boat very early to beat the heat. The epoxy paint we’re using will get sticky and not work if you try to apply it in warmer temps. So off we went.
Right to work, Dani started prepping the engine room while I started the bilge. I finished putting a bottom coat on the bilge before handin […]

I’m off work today for the 4th Holiday weekend and had made plans to go to the boat to “BilgeKote” the Engine Room and Bilge. I set my alarm for 5am..and managed to get up at 6am. I made it to the boat around 6:30 and got to work preparing the Bilge and Engine Room. I forgot the Acetone at home DOH! ah well, I just used some degreaser, then some water, then a scrub pad, and a vacuum to suck up any loose particles floating around.
Now we didn’t follow the Manufactu […]

Today we went to install the new battery shelf Tate had cut and epoxied out of Marine Ply into the engine room to replace the one that was there before. Later we’ll figure out how to secure the batteries from moving around while underway. The shelf went in without a hitch:
We also brought the new fuel shelves and put them on top of the old shelves to see if they fit correctly. They did!
Tate decided not to bolt the Fuel tank shelves into place until we have the new fuel tanks inse […]

Today was the day to build the new Fuel Tank and Battery Shelves. Around 11am we headed over to the “Alario Brothers Marine Supplies, Inc” Store in Westwego, La. I had been searching for a good place to get Stainless Steel Hardware (bolts, nuts and screws) and Fuel hoses and I found these guys. It’s a family owned business that sells everything the fishing, shrimping and crabbing industry needs. They had a great selection of just about everything..even my favorite shoes […]

So despite not posting and not even going to the boat much we’ve been quite the busy bees this week. In response to the impending fuel tank install I had to give consideration to the primary fuel filter situation. That is… We had none. You see on a diesel the filters are way more important than a gas engine. You’re supposed to have a primary (1st) filter and a second filter attached to the motor itself. Some people advocate even more filters.
We searched around for wh […]

Today is Father’s Day! Lots of love goes out to my Dad who I love and respect highly..He has helped me grow into the person I am today. I grew up on boats and on the water, thanks to him and his love for all things boats, I don’t find what we are tackling as undoable.
After Seabrook dropped our engine we decided we weren’t going to have them do very much else to our boat. One of the things I was soooooo excited about (probably the most) was getting that engine room and […]

Refit day 11 was actually before we left for our vacation but I just didn’t have the time or energy to document what we did before we left so I’ll include it here. When we got back to the boat we decided we’d give the wood some more time to dry out and in the meantime we wanted to get the bilge cleaned up since we’d pretty much decided not to let the boatyard work on it.
So it was the beginning of diving into the dark and mysteriously places. You know in Star Trek th […]

So the yard debacle went down like this. I stormed into their office with the raging red ass. I found one of the owner’s sons. You see the owner or partial owner is a guy that had three sons and all the sons are partners now. Its really apparent now that its sort of a two many chiefs and not enough indians sort of situation. This was became obvious when I was speaking to Son #2 instead of Son #1 (Jeff).
None of them know what the other is doing. Luckily though Son #2 heard me o […]

Tate and I both have full time jobs that take up the better part of the day, but we are trying to get as much done whenever we can squeeze in time as possible. It’s cooler in the evening’s anyways! Especially for us since the Weather Gods are apparently on our side..We had great weather again today!
Hard to believe we are getting so lucky with the weather! Hopefully the Gods will think of us when we are trying to install the new engine in Mid July!
We only had a couple of hours […]
