Sundowner is reduced by $10,000k to $39,500k.
Location Panama, Central America
Tate and I are selling SV Sundowner, a Westsail 32 1974 sailboat. She was completely refit from 2010 to 2015 and is being worked on as we sail and live aboard. We planned to sail around the world but health reasons are forcing us back to the States. This is an incredible deal. We spent over $100k total and 5000 man hours getting this boat in shape.
She is ready to cross oceans RIGHT NOW. She is LOADED […]

Our Panamanian sky today is overcast and gray and there is a 1 knot current outside in the water, it is a perfect day to catch you up on our Central American travels thus far. It’s been nearly 2 months since we’ve last updated the blog and I’m sure many of our readers are wondering what has happened to us. We have been quite busy here in San Blas but are still having the time of our lives.
We arrived to the Swimming Pool anchorage 15 miles off the coast of Panama in the Ho […]

Yesterday Tate went out again to the outer reef of the Holandes Cays (aka the Swimming Pool) only this time he went alone. While the waves on the Outside looked ok from the Inside in actuality they were not. Standing up in the dinghy once beyond the reef he couldn’t see over the top of the waves…6 foot waves are no place for our 10′ Porta-bote and new 5 hp Yahama outboard. Oh but wait, last time we were just in the midst of recommissioning Sundowner. We have some catching up to […]

It has been an interesting time for us lately. Travelling back to the boat has been quite an undertaking. There were many weeks of gathering equipment to bring back and lots of visiting with loved ones before the final day arrived to put most of our worldly belongings into bags and get on a plane that would bring us to Panama, customs, immigration, and a boat we’d left behind over 10 months before sitting in the wild Panamanian jungles.
I had visions of monkey poop piled up on the cockp […]

Tate and I are flying back to Panama on November 2nd, next Wednesday, only 5 DAYS AWAY. Holy Smokes have we been busy. Once things get settled down in Panama we’ll update the blog more on what it took to get here but for now chew on these sounds bites:
We sold the RV, motorcycle and all extras for pretty much what we paid for it minus a couple thousand. Tate goes into the cost a bit more in our last video, which we have just finished making see below:
Sundowner has been moved from the st […]

It is raining yet again. The rain never seems to abate around these parts, our campsite that is. We’ve spent the last seven days camped down a little gravel offshoot of an Olympic National Forest Service road off Hwy 101 on the western most side of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. This locale happens to be situated in between not one, but TWO temperate rainforests, the Hoh Rainforest resides about 30 miles to the north while the Quinalt Rainforest resides 10 miles to the south. T […]

The exciting time in my life has rolled around again! 6 months have passed (can you believe it?) since we put our boat Sundowner on the hard in Panama and flew back to the United States to take advantage of the low gas prices and do an RV tour of North America. Now I’ve compiled all of the numbers and want to compare our monthly RV costs to our monthly sailing costs.
I track all of our expenses on my phone with a free app called “Spending Tracker“.
I tried to pick a variety of […]

Happy 2016 folks! Wow what an incredible year it has been for Tate and I and in just one day we will celebrate our 1 year cruising anniversary!
Yep…If you remember we cut the dock lines on Jan 6th 2015 in the Artic cold from New Orleans, Louisiana and headed straight across the Gulf of Mexico to Key West, Fl before heading to Cuba to smoke some cigars. After a while we shot straight across the Gulf Stream to Isla Mujeres, Mexico traveling inland to cool ruins and cenotes and then made the […]

“I really should write in this thing more often, like now out at sea but damn how the boat rolls, it’s impossible…maybe we should buy a Catamaran” -excerpt from Dani’s diary Sept 7th 2015 Providencia to San Blas
One day before our Colombian visas expired we headed to Mr. Bush’s (Providencia’s agent)office to give our fingerprints to the nice Migration lady and formally check out. We then took our remaining Pesos and bought as much fried street food as we […]

Well friends, readers, and family, it is that seemingly rare time again. Time to raise anchor and set out for parts yet unknown.
We’ve enjoyed our time here but last night we spent our last pesos, cleared out, and with Zarpe in hand we will hopefully sail for Provenir in the San Blas islands of Panama.
I changed the oil this morning and the boat is mostly stowed, all that is really left is to hoist in the dink and raise anchor. So between those tasks I thought I’d drop in and w […]
